Mid Season Underage Update

Minor Camogie

Competing in Division 3 again this year the team has 2 girls on the Dublin Minor and Under 17 squads and are bolstered by a number of girls stepping into their 1st year of minor grade. After an opening round defeat to eventual league winners St Oliver Plunketts/ Eoghan Ruadh, the girls regroup and won all but 1 game against Raheny which ended in a draw. The girls are now preparing for championship having come runners up in the league. Well done to all!

Minor Hurling

This team is sitting on top of their league in a 2 way tie having lost only two games. After loosing their opening game to Erin Go Bragh they went on a winning streak. They face St Anne’s in their final game. This is a young squad with a significant number of players with another year to go at this level, so regardless of the outcome the experience will stand to them.

Under 16 Camogie

This group are competing in Division 2 which is a very high standard for a club our size and had a good league campaign, winning 3 and drawing 1 game from 7 which landed them in the top half of the table. With 3 girls on the Dublin squads this year it’s no wonder they remain competitive and are currently sitting mid table. A big congratulations to Chloe Madden and Rachel Leahy who reached the Leinster Final and competed in the All-Ireland with Dublin A and to Meabh Ramos Finnegan who went one further with the Dublin Bs and win their All-Ireland. Meabh now joins an elite list of Kevins players who have won a gold All-Ireland medal in our 120+ year history.

Under 16 Hurling

This squad is building on last years years Féile success and are sitting on top of division 4 after 5 games, winning 4 and loosing 1 to O’Dwyers of Balbriggan. They have 2 remaining games against high flying opposition including Sc Uí Chonaill at home on the 16th June and St Maurs away on the 27th June.

Under 15 Camogie

This squad had a good Féile campaign, but were unfortunately knocked out after a 3 way tie occurred in the group stages. The girls were disappointed with the outcome, but it was all to play for in the League Division 4 which they currently top and are awaiting the outcome of other games before concluding. While we are not fielding an Under 14 camogie team this year a big shout out goes to Abbie Jordan and Viv O’Sullivan who are representing the club on the Dublin Under 14 Development squad.

Under 15 Hurling

This squad competed in division 4 of the Féile nA nGael and qualified for the Cup final after beating a much fancied Round Towers in the semi-final. The boys finished 2nd in their group due to a stronger score difference and went into the semi-finals as underdogs. The boys now look forward to the league campaign where they are competing in Division 3, winning their opening game and narrowly loosing their 2nd. They will be back in league action in August!

Under 14 Hurling

This group have completed their Phase 1 D grading league games with lots of tight games and mixed results. Amazingly at an age where most teams suffer from player drop out this squad is growing which is testament to the mentors positive outlook and approach. Their Phase 2 grading has commenced where they have been very competitive in both games, despite suffering defeat. Congratulations also to Harry Gavin who was selected for the Under 14 Dublin Development squad.

Under 13 Camogie

Effectively known as the “Ninjas” after their first outing many years ago when they were a small group of exceptionally talented players who shocked their opponents with the skill and movement of ninjas carrying hurleys instead of nunchucks. This group has started small but has grown their panel to 21+. They are currently competing in grading league group 5 and currently sitting mid table. The group received a lovely surprise recently when MicksGarage.com sponsored them a set of tops and bags and we hear a rumour there is another sponsorship deal on the way!

Under 13 Hurling

After a good season last year, this squad were placed in the division 6 grading. The boys suffered a 1st round defeat to St Brigids but picked up full points after that beating some super clubs along the way. These boys play a nice brand of hurling and with a plethora of good free takers their good discipline has given them an edge in a number of games so far. They are now competing in Division 4 for the rest of the season and are currently top of the table winning 2 from 2, but with another 7 games to go it’s all to play for!

Under 12 Hurling

Under 12 is an interesting year as boys transition from Go Games to competition which involves moving from small sided games to a big pitch. The boys were placed in D grading league and have hit the ground running winning all of their games to date and are competing in Division 7 where they have got off to a good start!

Go Games (Under 8-11) Hurling and Camogie

Go Games focus on player participation and development both from a skills and physical perspective. Kevins fielded teams at all ages hosting teams in Loreto College and Dolphin Park while also travelling the length and breath of Dublin on alternative weeks. We have teams in both hurling and camogie and a some girls opt to play both.

ABC Nursery

Our Donore Credit Union ABC Nursery caters for boys and girls aged 4 – 7 years old. “A.B.C” stands for Agility, Balance and Coordination. We have developed a series of fun-based exercises to develop movement and motor skills for young children aged 4 to 7 years old. These skills form the basis for the later development of the specific skills of hurling and camogie. The level of competency with which one can perform these skills is referred to as their level of physical literacy. Our nursery takes place every Saturday morning from 10am and there is a great atmosphere up in Loreto College as the coaches put the kids through their paces. Parents also have the opportunity to visit the coffee stand while their superstars burn up as much energy as possible.

Handball

The handball section were delighted to partner with the TK2 Centre and develop 2 One Wall Courts in late 2025. It’s been a great boost to the weekly Friday night sessions which now attracts players from the local area who are not existing hurlers or camógs. Kevins were delighted to see a number of local schools enter the Cumann nA mBunscoil 40×20 event in January which was topped off by Cody Kenny reaching the Junior Boys final and Matthew McGlade (both from St Clare’s Harold’s Cross) winning the Senior Boys final. 6 boys from Kevins also participated in the Dublin Under 13 Fun Blitzes held throughout March and April. Currently on a break we hope to be back in action by June in time for the Wallball season!

Rounders

The sun has been spotted since the clocks went back and so it’s time for our weekly underage Rounders. Weekly session are held in Loreto College on a Friday night from 6.15pm to 7.45pm (Weather and Light Permitting) and we plan to enter Go Games events and some underage competitions held throughout the summer months. The Under 12 group had a great visit to Mobhi Road in May where they played Clontarf and Na Fianna.

Coaching & Development

The coaching & development committee have been  keeping busy organising mentor get togethers and organising coaching courses for new and existing mentors. Our annual Easter camps were once again a great success and plans are already under way for our Cúl and Club camps over the summer.

A new multi purpose ball wall has been constructed in Loreto College on the Astro where the ABC Nursery is held every week. Some finishing touches are required in the coming weeks and the club has plans to utilise this much needed facility over the coming years.

Kevins In The Community

Kevins members were in attendance at the local Harolds Cross Festival once again and were delighted to be able to showcase our work in the local community where we have been promoting Gaelic games since 1902.
