Minor Camogs Advance and More …

The week-end commenced early this week, as the recently formed Under 7s travelled to Crumlin on Wednesday for a game. As their Donore Credit Union ABC Nursery colleagues togged out on Saturday morning they paid another visit to take part in a local blitz with Crumlin and Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels. A number of members also attended a Safeguarding 1 course in St Catherines during the week. Many thanks to our Child Welfare Officer Karen Jordan for organizing. This is a really important topic for the club mentors, coaches and volunteers who work at our camps must keep their Safeguarding up to date. We will also have more information on upcoming coaching courses later in the week.

Saturday morning was a hive of activity for our Go Games hurling teams. Our Under 8s were the only team at home, hosting Round Towers in a three team game. Our Under 9s travelled to Loretto Park beside Nutgrove Shopping Centre to take on Ballinteer Saint Johns in a three team event and performed very well. There was lots of hooking and blocking on show and it’s great to see this team grow in confidence. While it is a hurling team this group has a number of the Ninjas playing with them. The Under 10s popped over to our neighbours in Drimnagh and our Under 11s had a longer trip heading over to Swords to play Fingallians, with both sides putting on a good display of hurling.

It was business as usual for our table topping Under 12 hurlers who defeated Thomas Davis 5-10 to 3-4 at home in Dolphin Park. While the final result was good, Kevins didn’t have it all their own way, as they had to come from behind. Tadhg Murphy put in another solid performance in the middle of the field notching up 6 points. Their last game is away to Ballyboden Saint Enda’s. While they have done enough to secure second place in the league, a win against Boden will leave them at least joint top with Crokes. We have two Under 12 squads this year and our other team travelled to Palmerstown to take on St Patrick’s. this was always going to be a tough encounter as St Pat’s are unbeaten in their league and our traveler’s suffered defeat. However, they are still performing well in their league, sitting in third place. Their next encounter will be another tough one as they travel to Ballymun to take on Setanta.

We were on the road on Sunday for our favorite competition! The “Sheila Sheilds”! Our Adult CBC/Portobello team were in the Shield final against Castleknock in their grounds at 10.30am and this was followed by a quick trip across to St Peregrines for the Minor Shield Semi-Final. It wasn’t to be for the Adult team, but well done to the Minor girls who won narrowly on a scoreline of 6-4 to 5-4. We await the details of the final.

We also ran two fund raisers during the week thanks to the work of Gerry Brennan and Serena Scott and all the Race volunteers. On Tuesday our race volunteers popped into town to supervise on the Grant Thornton 5km and on Sunday they were out at the Great Pink Run in Leopardstown. These fund raisers went towards the 2023 Feile campaign and buying a new sound system for our Donore Credit Union ABC Nursery.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, our Social Rounders group were hosting the launch of the Dublin Social Rounders Winter Mixed League. Many thanks to Loreto College for partnering with us on this Healthy Club activity. We had men and women from all over Dublin travel to Loreto College for a social game and despite the small bit of rain and blustery weather the game went ahead. Fun was had by all and we welcomed some local ladies who have come out of retirement after 20 years. If you are a parent or living in the local community and would like to join in then email pro.kevins.dublin@gaa.ie.

There’s a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes for our Stand Up For Kevins Comedy Night on Friday the 11th November in Lowes Pub. There is still some mystery around who the 9 brave souls are who volunteered for what is billed as what will be the funniest night in Kevin’s 120 year history. Keep an eye on social media and all maybe revealed…  This is our key fund raiser event for 2022 and should also prove to be a fun social night. Tickets are only €20 and you can purchase on Eventbrite by clicking here.

If you have a match report, or Kevin’s related story you can email pro.kevins.dublin@gaa.ie! Monday night’s lotto jackpot will be €3,400! You can play online up to 7pm tonight using the secure Clubforce link by clicking here. All funds raised go towards the running of our many club teams and activities.
