Kevin’s March On!

A message arrived through the club messaging system last week announcing yet another team training session postponed, as the mentor announced over 50 days of solid rain! This weekends sunshine was welcomed by all, as we transition from a very wet February to what we hope is a dry March. With 12 club fixtures across hurling and camogie along with Kevin’s Heroes and ABC Nursery a bit of good weather was vital.

The club started the week well as we were honoured to be invited into the Mansion House by Donore Avenue Credit Union for some afternoon tea with Dublins Lord Mayor. Thankfully it was an indoor event and rumour has it Deirdre Kedney got some great ideas for fancying up the Saturday morning coffee station.

Matthew McGlade got the weekend activities off to a start in the dry confines of the Croke Park GAA Handball Centre, representing St Clare’s School and Dublin in the Leinster Under 13 Boys 40×20 Schools Championship. Matthew put in a good shift playing 2 very tight games with lots of rallies and mixed results, loosing to Kildare and beating Meath. While Matthew didn’t progress to the semi-final stage he did his school proud. The weekly TK2 One Wall gathering in Charlemont Place took place from 6-7.30pm which was followed by an adult session hosted by the Brian Boru’s club. If any adults want to try handball pop into the TK2 centre and check it out.

Saturday morning started early with the Under 13 hurlers training at 8.15am before the arrival of the Kevin’s Heroes and ABC Nursery, but not before some players reminded the mentors that hurling training starts earlier than school. The Go Games hurlers and camógs were in action on Saturday across Loreto College, Dolphin Park and beyond. The Under 15 Camogie squad also commenced their league campaign with a good home win on a scoreline of Kevins 4-4 to Setanta 0-1. The Under 12 hurlers had another good win away, this time against Scoil Uí Chonaill making it 2 from 2 in their grading league. The Under 8 and 9 hurlers were at home while the Under 10 and 11 hurlers travelled to Malahide and Westmanstown putting in a good shift. The Under 10 camogie squad were also in action at home.

After a quick cup of tae, club GPO Paul McManus was back on the pitch working with the Under 15 hurlers who are preparing for the next round of their Féile tournament. The boys are due to play St Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh at home next Sunday in what should be a strong side. Keep an eye out on the fixtures and pop up to support the boys.

Meanwhile out in UCD, Meath appointed referee Conor McKenna to officiate Dublin V Kilkenny in an Under 16 Leinster championship tie. Chloe Madden and Rachel Costello lined out with the Dublin Under 16a squad, who led by 4 points at half time and with 15 minutes to Kilkenny had pulled the Dubs back to level scores and unfortunately for the home side the Cats finished strong.

Sunday was equally as busy as we were once again delighted to see the rain hold off. Kevins opened their Adult Hurling League campaign with 3 home fixtures. Our Intermediate hurlers had a tough opening game against Na Fianna, who are hotly tipped to bounce back to AHL3. Throw in was delayed to accommodate other fixtures in Dolphin Park and unfortunately the Glasnevin outfit left with full points on a scoreline of 3-15 to 1-17. Our AHL7 side narrowly lost their opening game against Kilcoole of Wicklow on a scoreline of 4-13 to 1-25 and our recently promoted AHL9 side also lost to O’Dwyers 1-20 to 2-5. Not to be for our adult hurlers who will March on to their next round of fixtures in 2 weeks.

There was no fear of the weather conditions out In Blanchardstown as Noah Ryan trialled out to St Brigids to represent Kevin’s in the Dublin Under 13 40×20 Fun Blitz. Noah is new to 40×20 and performed really well wining 1 and loosing 1 game. Meanwhile, mother and daughter duo Jenny and Chloe Kearns were in O’Toole Park with the Dublin Minor Camogie team.

Our Under 13 Camogie squad opened their grading league campaign against O’Tooles. The girls were 15 down at half time and brought it back to 3 point deficit at full time. The girls played a blinder and took well to the full size pitch which is new to them. Back on home soil our Under 16 girls hosted Fingallians in Dolphin Park – both without their Dublin stars – and emerged 1 point winners. Meabh Ramos Finnegan had the honour of wrapping up activities for the week-end lining out at centre forward for the Dublin 16b team against Kildare who came away with a 1 point win 👏👏👏

As our 124th season is well and truely under way now and we are delighted to announce that the Club Lotto Jackpot stands at a nice €3,500. Tommorrows draw takes place in the Harold House and you can click here to play online. All money raised goes towards the running of our many teams and activities. Many thanks as always for your continued support.
