Junior A’s Remain On Top

Our Junior A’s had a good win at home against St Finians of Swords this morning. In a tough first half Kevin’s led 3-8 to 0-6 with Shane Codd and Joey Mowlds providing a strong defensive backbone and Jack Fenlon and Jamie Tracey causing problems up front. However, it was goals from Daan O’Loughlin and Declan Power that gave Kevin’s the edge at the break.

St Finians had the better of starts in the second half grabbing a goal and tagging on some excellent long range points and at one stage brought Kevin’s lead back to 2 points. Both sides had a number of goal opportunities but a cool head and some excellent reflexes from both Brian Óg Flannery and the visiting keeper set hearts racing on a number of occasions. Kevin’s managed to regain control in the last quarter, but it was the introduction of big Dan O’Brien that provided a turning point, when he latched onto a long ball and turned like a ballerina weaving in and out of the Swords defence, as the force of gravity carried himself and two defenders towards the goal. Dan was on the verge of scoring Kevin’s first ever try in our 120+ year history, but some quick thinking led to a wristy flick of the hurl and Kevin’s 4th goal, which killed off the Swords fight back. Final score was 4-14 to 1-16. This leaves Kevin’s top of Group 2 with 2 games to play against Thomas Davis (away) and St Marks (home) over the coming weeks.

Our Junior D’s had a narrow loss versus Round Towers Lusk. Final score 1-15 to 1-14. This leaves them in 3rd spot in Group 2 with 2 games to play against Erin’s Isle (home) and Trinity Gaels (away). Our Junior G’s had a bye on Friday night and remain unbeaten with 4 games to go. Next up are Ballyboden Saint Enda’s at home.
