The week-end got off to a cracking start with 3 handball sessions in the TK2 Community Centre in Charlemont Place. It’s amazing to see the progress being made, especially with the younger group. Saturday morning was busy with the weekly Kevin’s Heroes and ABC Nursery in Loreto College and underage training sessions also held in Bushy Park.
Our Under 8-12 hurling teams were in action around the county and with Dolphin Park under construction our 9s, 10s and 12s hosted St Judes, Kilmacud Crokes and Clontarf in Drimnagh Castle Secondary School. We would like to thank the school and our neighbours St James Gaels for accommodating us while work is ongoing in Dolphin Park. Our Under 8 hurlers travelled to Ballinteer and our Under 11s were in Raheny. Our Under 12s had a good win over our visitors 5-5 to 3-5 which puts them in top spot in Division 7 as they enter the final stages of the league. Big shout out to Daniel who had a cracking game between the posts which gave the boys a solid base to build on during the game.
Our Under 15 camógs received a walkover in the Division 4 championship fixture which means they remain unbeaten in their group before their last round robin game in 2 weeks time where they will play Thomas Davis for top spot.
It was a big day for our adult camogie section, as both our teams were in championship knock-out action and playing for a place in the final of their respective competitions. First up were the Intermediate squad. This group have been pushing for promotion for a number of years, but with the recent injection of youth this season there has been a new air of optimism. Level at half time, the girls went 8 points down early in the second half, only to claw their way back into the game and managed to draw level before the final whistle. The game went to extra time, then extra-extra time and was only settled after 45 yard free shoot out! Fair play to Holly, Chloe K, Meabh Ramos Finnegan, Rachel and the Hickster for their nerves of steel as they slotted ball after ball over the bar. History has been made as the girls secured promotion to Intermediate 1 grade in 2026, the highest level the club has been to date. Our Junior 3 girls travelled to Sancta Maria and had a tough challenge against a strong Ballyboden Saint Enda’s. However, they did themselves and the club proud battling hard throughout.
Sunday was busy once again with a number of hurling and camogie teams in action.
Our Under 9 camógs travelled to Palmerstown to play St Patrick’s. A great morning of sport was had in lovely weather conditions! Coach Jenny was spotted on the line for this early throw in, the morning after she lined out in the clubs big win! Clearly she is saving the celebrations for after the final 😉.
Our Under 15 hurlers were in Division 3 action against St Oliver Plunketts / Eoghan Ruadh on Sunday morning. The boys fought hard throughout, but came up short against the Féile Champions. Despite the loss, the boys remain in the hunt for honours, having won 2 from 4 games to date.
Our Minor hurlers were also on the road for their second round game against Beann Eadair. The boys are now 2 from 2 and are on top of the group going into the last round. This group is doing very well playing teams in higher leagues and we look forward to seeing how they progress over the coming weeks.
Our Under 13 Ninjas travelled up into the Dublin Mountains where they were hosted by a strong Stars of Erin team in a lunch time throw in. Playing on a big pitch, the team left it all on the field, showing their commitment to their team and club. Despite the loss the mentor group are very focussed on the long term development and were quick to point out that a loss is a chance to learn 💙.
Our Under 16 girls wrapped up the weekend with a Division 1 Championship tie against Na Fianna. The visitors from Mobhi Rd. ended up going home with the win, but it shouldn’t take away from a fantastic performance by Kevin’s at the highest level. But for a goal incorrectly disallowed for square ball and impressive defending from the Na Fianna full back line, the result could easily have gone in favour of the girls in blue and white. Well done to the players and mentors for the effort and passion showed today 👏 Final score : 3-7 to 1-8. While the results haven’t gone our way, competing at the highest level will no doubt bring this group on further.
We have another big week coming up with our Under 13, 14 and 16 hurlers playing crucial games on Saturday afternoon and both our adult hurling squads playing in key championship ties. Keep an eye out for the fixtures.
