Thankfully the lads on the pitch performed better than the tonight’s photographer! An excellent game of hurling was played in front of a good crowd between two local clubs, Crumlin took an early lead and were up 6 points to 4 at the first water break and when play resumed picked up the first point.
Our neighbours would have been further ahead only for the bravery of Brian Óg Flannery in goal who pulled off a great save in what was a certain goal opportunity. It was Kevin’s who grabbed the opening goal when a high ball popped out of the keepers hand. Kevin’s crawled back into the game but were behind by 10 points to 1-6 at the break.
Kevin’s started strongly in the third quarter with a goal and a brace of points from play with Declan Power leading the charge and David Reid slotting over a number of frees. Despite Kevin’s dominance Crumlin managed a few scores but it was the home side who lead at the second water break 2-12 to 14 points.
Crumlin had an injection of energy in the last quarter and piled on the pressure, but the full back line held out. Eventually the break through came as Crumlin won a penalty but once again Brian Óg Flannery stepped up and cleared his line winning a free from the rebound. It was tit for tat with scores, but with Kevin’s down to 14 men our neighbours had a slight advantage in the heat. Crumlin slotted a few over the bar from frees and drew the game with the last free at the death. It was excellent game throughout played in a good competitive spirit. Final score Kevin’s 2-15 Crumlin 0-21.
Ballyboden Saint Endas are up next on the 25th July in what is a repeat of last years Junior A final. Get up and support the lads!
