Well done to our Under 15 Féile hurlers who got off to a flying start in their opening game against Skerries Harps this morning. This game was originally fixed for Skerries, but moved due to an a playable pitch and with the help of a good neighbour in Islandbridge. Kevins led at half time aided by a good gust of wind and a very solid keeper who provided a baseline for the boys to attack. Skerries Harps did gain some momentum in the second half when playing with the wind but with Kevin’s knocking in 3 goals in the first half, it was always going to be a struggle for the Harps. An entertaining game overall, with Kevins winning 3-8 to 1-4 and getting their Division 4 campaign off to a flying start. Next up are St Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh at home in Dolphin Park on Sunday 8th March.
In other hurling news our Under 13 hurlers lost out on Saturday to St Brigids in their Division 6 grading game. This game was moved to St Brigids Astro due to unplayable pitches, which has plagued the county over the past couple of weekends. Kevins started strong and led 2-2 to 2-0 after 15 minutes, but a burst of goals and points from St Brigids, put them 5-3 to 2-2 ahead at half time. Kevin’s had most of the play in the second half and despite the blues dominance, struggled to get the ball over the line for a major. The game ended 5-4 to 2-6 in favour of St Brigids. In their next game, Kevins are due to host St Judes on the 7th March.
The Under 14 hurlers game was postponed due to an unplayable pitches and lack of alternative option, but the Under 16s travelled to Clontarf to play on the Alfie Byrne Rd Astro and the outcome was good with Kevin’s winning 2-7 to 2-2. A good opening result for the boys! Next up for the Under 16s are Erins Isle at home on March 7th. The Under 14s have a bye on the 14th March and host Ballinteer Saint Johns on 28th March.
A number of under 13 handballers took part in the opening of the Dublin 40×20 Fun Tournament out in St Brigids. This tournament includes 34 entrants from 5 clubs across Dublin and after the initial group stages the boys will be split into 3 grades. There was some super handball on show from the Kevins boys involved.
