Our Under 13 hurlers played their last fixture of the season in an early throw in at Dolphin Park hosting Saint Vincents, who were riding high in the table just behind an unbeaten Commercials outfit.
We had a large panel of players out for the finale, including some help from the Under 12s, with Aodhán Ó hAoláin between the posts always being a big bonus. St Vincents started out strong as they meant to go on with a promotion at stake for them. Despite shipping an early goal, the boys didn’t panic and Harry Gavin, being Harry Gavin went down the other end and replied with a few scores to steady the ship.
We ended the half seven points down, but it really should have only been 4 after an uncalled blue line ball resulted in a goal for the opposition, but that’s the way it goes. The second half went along in a similar fashion with every ball hard won and every possession contested.
Alfie McCarron showed complete commitment to keep a ball in play with a spectacular dive and strike midair right on the sideline, and speaking of Alfies young Alfie Connellan – playing up – showed that even when your being chased down by lads twice your size, if you’ve a brilliant first touch and speed you can make crucial differences. That lad is one to watch!
Matthew Boyle was on fire in midfield working hard as he always does and he’s really become an integral member of the panel. Pearse Roche and Séadna Clancy harassing the Marino forwards making sure all they got didn’t come easy and Luke Feely done some fine hooking at the right times. In the end we couldn’t close the gap against a big strong St Vincents side, but they didn’t get things all their own way and every lad that was there for us got game time as always regardless. Final score St Vincents 3-5 Kevin’s 0-7.
With that result we finished 4th in the table, but we’re looking at it as a very positive season and real progress in the development of the squad. It hasn’t come from nowhere and without the dedication of a special group of mentors and lads coming to training in the wet and cold teams don’t get built.
We’ve a lot to look forward to next year!
In other news our Under 16 camógs were bearean by a strong Cuala side in the Shield final on Saturday, while the Under 14 camógs played out an exciting Cup final replay, but came up short against a talented St Olaf’s. Our Under 15 Davin side had a fantastic win against Faughs and currently sit in second place. However, the must await a game between Naomh Barrog and Crumlin before their fate will be determined.
Our Under 8 hurlers finished their games for 2025 with a short trip to Pearse Park for a fantastic blitz with Crumlin, Good Counsel Liffey Gaels and St James Gaels. Our Under 9s also travelled to Sarsfield Road for a game against Good Counsel Liffey Gaels.
