Tú maith leath na hoibre… A good start is indeed half the work, and a good start is how our adult hurlers can describe their 2025 championship campaign to date, as they maintained a 100% record after 2 rounds across Junior A, D and G championships.
In the opening game in St Anne’s Park our Junior As led by 0-11 to 0-8 at half-time against st a recently promoted Raheny side. A Brian Considine goal upon the restart put further distance between the teams as Kevins eased home thanks to further scores by David Reid, Declan Power, Dan O’Loughlin, Adam Mitchell and Karl Walsh. Next up was Lucan Sarsfields at home and once again our boys got off to a good start. Shane Codd provided a solid base at full back and with Cathal Minogue invoking his Tipperaryness at wing back there was only going to be a good display on the morning of an All-Ireland. David Reid is showing good form once again, but this time in the middle of the field where he chipped in 3 points. Joey Mowlds provided a powerful display at centre back and claimed a lucky goal in the second half from a deflection from one of his long range clearances. This put Kevin’s in a comfortable position, but as Kevin’s were 10 points up with 10 minutes to go Lucan made a late comeback with a goal and few points to finish strong. Despite their strong finish the final score ended 1-19 to 1-15. The lads are playing St Finians of Swords at home in the next round and will be die-ing to get into their newly sponsored gear, thanks to Fanagans Funeral Home.
Our Junior Ds beat Naomh Mearnóg at home and then travelled to Marino to take on St Vincents last weekend which is always a tough task. However they managed to scrape through by a point as a result of scoring 6 goals with top contributions from Karl McKenzie and Eoin Walsh in midfield as well as Johny Watson and Gratzer up front.
The Ds will be keen to keep up momentum after a good – but disappointing league campaign – where they took points from the two promoted sides, but let some key games against weaker opponents slip resulting in a top 4 spot. While the league campaign ended better than in previous years, promotion to AHL6 was certainly an opportunity lost.
Our Junior Gs also continued their good league run winning their opening game against St Joseph’s OCB and again against St Marks. Paul Hyland, Cormac Murphy, Cian O’Carroll and Conor Bracken have been in top form to date. Elder Statesmen Bracks and O’Carroll will surely welcome the break next week and will be ready for their first home tie in two weeks.
With the All-Ireland hurling championship now finished for the year, Junior hurling is the only show in town and we’d encourage all members and supporters to get up and support the lads over the summer.
