Under 12 Hurlers Make It 3 from 3

Our Under 12s travelled to Fr Collins Park to play Trinity Gaels where there was some excellent hurling on show from both sides. It was their 3rd game of the league series where they had already disposed of Kilmacud Crokes and Na Fianna.

Trinity Gaels started strong and took the lead shortly after throw in with some stylish defenders backing up their attack. The hooking, blocking and catching in particular was top quality. Kevins went in 0-6 to 0-2 at half time thanks to scores from Harry Cox, Alfie Connellan and Miel O’Loughlin and some disciplined defence from Matthew McGlade and Anthony Kerfoot on the full back line. Jenson Martin and Charlie Dunne tormented the hosts throughout the first half with their attacks down the left wing and chasing down players who broke free for quick puck outs. The introduction of super sub debutant Noah Broadbin also added some spice to the forward line and he was unlucky not to score on his maiden voyage.

The Gaels pummelled the Kevin’s defence from the start of the second half but Aodhán Ó hAoláin in the goals was cool under pressure and stopped a screamer of a shot that was certain to turn the game. At the other end the Donaghmede keeper was also in top form pulling off a number of point blank saves.

The flow of attacks were eventually stopped and a quick counter attack led to a Daniel Kennedy goal which gave the Kevin’s boys some momentum and we eventually started to pull away with some points from Jack Dollard, Calvin Lee and Tristan Tennyson who scored from tricky angles. However Trinity Gaels kept pressing and if Sam Geoghegan, Noah Ryan and Tristan Tennyson weren’t so solid on the half back line the hosts would without a doubt have grabbed more scores.

While the game ended 3-10 to 0-5 the quality of hurling from both sides was exceptional.

To end the day, Captain Morgan Grogan – who was solid in defence all day – popped over to the Gaels to thank them for the game, wished them the best for the future and we hope to meet them again!

Well done all and thanks to Trinity Gaels for a top quality game. Well done also to the Naomh Mearnog referee who marshalled the game to a very high standard.

The boys go into the break with a well deserved full points and will have 4 more games on their return. Our next game will be against Setanta in September, but we plan to keep tapping away over the Summer.
