Mungret St Pauls Trip

Our Under 10-11 hurlers and Under 10-12 camogs had a great trip on Sunday to play Mungret St Pauls of Limerick and then experience the cut and thrust of a Munster Senior Championship game between Limerick and Waterford in the Gaelic Grounds.

Leaving early at 8.30am we arrived in Limerick with 80+ players, mentors and parents on two buses and fielded 5 teams between hurling and camogie. It was a great experience for our young boys and girls who were on their first trip out of Dublin with the club. After a top class feast in the the clubhouse we then set off to the game.

Confusion arose when the bus pulled up outside Thomond Park  and the kids were told they had a few minutes to walk to the ground. Luckily Munster Rugby fanatic Derek Connellan was on hand to explain to the kids that Thomond park is where they play the Rugby!

On arrival in the Gaelic Grounds loyalties were split amongst the group as they took their seats at the City end and a number of Kevins kids unfurled their Waterford and Limerick colours! This time the confusion was with the surrounding Limerick supporters who thought this group of Dubs had got lost on their way to Galway.

We were back on the road again after numerous headcounts (and mandatory toilet breaks) and the last phase of the trip was to stop at the Obama Plaza which was greeted with chanting OH-BAMA! OH-BAMA! on one bus … The bus driver on the smaller bus welcomed the break as the Karaoke Queens were belting out some serious tunes! After a feed of pizzas (and coffee for some of the parents) we were back on the road and arrived safe and sound in Dolphins Barn for parental pick up.

It was a great day overall and it was lovely to hear our hosts speak so highly of our children and their good manners. They were fantastic ambassadors for the club and city, both on and off the field. Many thanks to Mungret St Pauls for hosting us and to everyone who made the day happen.

Next up is the Leinster Hurling Final between Dublin and Kilkenny! Contact your mentors and arrange a group pass OR go online and get your own ticket and bring the family!
