Weekly Round Up 24 April 2022

The Kevins Heroes and Donore Avenue Credit Union extended their break this week-end and with so many people away on holidays, we didn’t think we could beat the excitement of Michelle Maddens big Lotto win. But by Thursday night normal service had resumed on the field of play. The Under 16 hurlers extended their good run with another league win. This time it was St Vincent’s away. Then came Friday! The Under 15s Feile na nGael Shield semi-final against Trinity Gaels was brought forward and thanks to St James Gaels we were able to play close by in Drimnagh Castle. It was a tight game throughout and by all accounts it was the closest we have come to using the club defibrillator. The only question was if we had a enough power to use it on all the supporters. It was looking like the northsiders we going to pip us, but then Christopher Tuite stepped up with a last minute goal to win 4-7 to 1-15. Thanks to Eoghan Redmond for the pictures on Facebook. we await the results of the other semi-final on Tuesday, but expect the final to be played next Saturday. This group has come through from nursery level and it would be great to see the members support the under 15s in the clubs first hurling final of 2022.

There was lots of Go Games activities this weekend with teams travelling around Dublin to compete on Saturday morning. Our Under 12 Cusack game versus Kilmacud Crokes was postponed at the request of the opposition, but the Davins travelled to Naomh Mearnog for their penultimate grading game. There were lots of happy faces afterwards as Kevin’s came away with full points. Our Under 15 camógs travelled to Bekan in Mayo to take on Westport Camogie in the new Dome. It was a great experience for the girls and good preparation for the upcoming Féile na nGael. After a minutes silence for Katie Moran the game got underway. It was a close fought game throughout but Kevin’s came away with a one point win 4-4 to 4-3. Many thanks to the enthusiastic parents who made the round trip and to mentors Viv and Emmet who have put so much into this team. You can check out the photos on Instagram.

We had mixed fortunes on Sunday with our Under 17s winning against St Marks and our Under 19s receiving a character building defeat. Best for Kevins in the Under 17 were Joe McGrath, James Cox and Mark Doyle. Both teams are going well in their leagues this year and their next fixtures are in 2 weeks time on the 8th May.

In other news the Dublin County Board are recruiting stewards to assist on matchdays in Parnell Park. Individuals must be over 18 years of age, be effective communicators and will form part of the matchday safety team. They will support the Event Controller to prepare for and deliver events in Parnell Park in a safe and controlled manner. Training is a legal requirement and will be provided. Stewards must also be vetted. Each club is being asked to submit at least 3 volunteers. The commitment would be for National League games, Leinster championship games and club finals held in Parnell Park (approximately 8 games per annum).

Finally, if you have a match report or news item you would like to post please email pro.kevins.dublin@gaa.ie. If you have some club history you’d like to share please get in touch.
