Easter Week Round-Up

The Easter Week-end was quiet as most teams took a well deserved break. The Kevins Easter Camp was a great success with over 125 boys and girls attending. Despite the bad weather on Monday and Tuesday, participants and parents gave very positive feedback and are requesting dates for the summer camps. The kids learned all about hard work, good attitude, team work, good fun and making new friends. Check out our Instagram page for a short reel. Registration hasn’t opened for our summer camps yet, but below are the dates:

  • 4th – 8th July : Cul Camp hosted in Kevins
  • 22nd – 26th August : Kevins Camp

Before the Easter Weekend kicked in our Under 16 hurlers picked up full points against O’Dwyers in Balbriggan and we were also well represented on the Dublin under 14 development squads on Good Friday.

The new Foundation Course will be run on Thursday 28th April at 7.30 pm and Saturday 30th April at 8.30am. All mentors must attend the new Foundation course. Please contact Paul McKenzie on 087 788 8725 for further details.

This week-end is a hurling Go Games week-end and there are also a number of mid week game fixed for the month of April. Below are the fixtures as set by the county boards and competition control committees and are subject to change depending on pitch availability. You can contact team mentors in advance.

As Kevins is one of the oldest clubs in Dublin and operating in the south inner city since its foundation in 1902, our members have experienced and participated in many key historical events throughout the city’s history. Easter 1916 was one of those historical periods. Also our clubhouse (which wasn’t owned by Kevins at the time), the former Weavers Hall in Donore Ave played its part in the 1916 Rising. The night before the Cumann na mBan marched out from this base, the rebels gathered for a céili. We hope to hear the sound of music emanating from the hall again. More details to follow soon. In the meantime if you are interested in local history you can check out our history page which gives a brief outline of our members involvement in 1916.

In other news the Dublin County Board are recruiting stewards to assist on matchdays in Parnell Park. Individuals must be over 18 years of age, be effective communicators and will form part of the matchday safety team. They will support the Event Controller to prepare for and deliver events in Parnell Park in a safe and controlled manner. Training is a legal requirement and will be provided. Stewards must also be vetted. Each club is being asked to submit at least 3 volunteers. The commitment would be for National League games, Leinster championship games and club finals held in Parnell Park (approximately 8 games per annum).

Finally, if you have a match report or news item you would like to post please email pro.kevins.dublin@gaa.ie. If you have some club history you’d like to share please get in touch.
