Santa, Hurling, Camogie & Rounders

Loreto College was buzzing with excitement on Saturday morning, as the Donore Avenue Credit Union ABC Nursery and Kevin’s Heroes welcomed Santa Claus on our last week. Overall it’s been a good year for these two groups and we really appreciate the partnership with both Donore Avenue Credut Union and Loreto College for their partnerships.

Our under 14 and camógs were also presented with their league, championship and shield titles yesterday. We also said a sad farewell to the Cronin sisters who depart for Bishopstown in Cork in the new year  We hope to see them continue with camogie and rounders in the future.

Our under 8s accepted an invite to play Kilmacud Crokes and travelled to Oatlands College to play in a 3 team event on Saturday morning. The Kevin’s boys and girls did their club proud once again with 6 close and competitive games in what was a cold morning for hurling. Their last session is next Saturday at 10am in Loreto College.

Our minor camogie squad had a good win against St Jude’s 5-6 to 3-5 in their last championship tie of the year in Dolphin Park on Sunday morning. This places them in 3rd position in their group and as a result won’t progress to the knock-out stages. however, we await details of the Under 20 Championship final.

On Sunday afternoon our Social Rounders squad travelled to Swords to play St Finians to play their last game of the 2021 season. It was a lovely sunny afternoon, but we got off to a shakey start as St Finians gained 7 runs and held us to 5 and then nudged ahead further in the 2nd innings. However, Some good fielding from Merilin Neiland (3rd Base), Adrian Scott (2nd Base), Joe Gallagher (Catcher) and Fergal Kelly (Left Outfield) got us back into the game as we held them to no runs in the top of the 3rd innings. Then we nudged ahead in the bottom of the 3rd with 8 runs of our own. A strong bat from Fergal Kelly when the bases were loaded got 3 home and himself onto 3rd base nudging us ahead as we went into the 4th innings. Our fielding finished strong holding St Finians to 2 runs in the 4th and the game ended in the bottom of the fourth. St Finians needed 3 runs to stay in the game, but the experienced fielders got them out for no runs. Well done to Priscilla Potel on her Kevins debuts and to Ollie Barrett and Boston boy Connor Cahill who played their 2nd ever game. Also to Fergal who was awarded player of the game by the ref for getting on base every time, a bit hit on the 3rd and good fielding throughout. Final score was 17-14 to Kevins with a scoreline per innings of 7-5, 4-2, 0-8, 3-2, 0-x. Our runs came from Fergal Kelly, Merilin Neiland and Connor Cahill (3 each) and Adrian Scott, Dáithí O hAoláin, Serena Scott and Ollie Barrett (2 each). The Social Rounders squad end the year unbeaten in the inaugural Dublin Social Rounders League and have 2 games to play in 2022 against St Maur’s of Rush and Limekiln.

While on pitch activities were going strong our team of Christmas Tree sellers were also busy throughout the week-end and even had a visit from Tánaiste Leo Varadkar. Trees are still on sale in Our Lady of the Rosary Church on the Harold’s Cross Road. You can call in to pick out your own tree or ring Brian Flannery on 0876391023 to arrange a delivery.
